James Moreton is a Director of Bankside Law. James specialises in the defence of business crime, serious fraud, money laundering and other complex cases of a financial nature.  He has defended numerous high profile cases brought by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) (formerly Customs and Excise and the Inland Revenue), and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). 

Whilst his specialism is in the field of financial crime, James also has considerable experience in defending other complex matters, including the defence of Army personnel in respect of matters arising out of the conflict in Iraq.

James was accredited with supervisor status in respect of serious fraud work from the inception of the Legal Services Commission’s Serious Fraud Panel and sits on the Fraud and Criminal High Cost Cases Appeal Committee at the Legal Services Commission. He is also a member of the European Criminal Bar Association (ECBA).
