Ian Ryan is a Director at Bankside Law Ltd. He joined the firm on 30th June 2003 from Russell-Cooke & Co in Putney where he was the head of a well known and successful Criminal Department. He specialises in defending Serious Fraud cases and is a Supervisor for the Specialist Fraud Panel.
He has extensive experience of advising and representing individuals and companies under investigation by different Government Agencies including HM Customs & Excise, the Serious Fraud Office, the Inland Revenue and the Police, including a number of clients who have not been charged following representations to the prosecuting authorities.

Ian also specialises in representing professionals in both criminal and disciplinary proceedings, and amongst his past and present clients are teachers, doctors, dentists, police officers, accountants, company directors, barristers and solicitors.
He is instructed by the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors to prosecute at the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal and he also appears regularly at that tribunal as a defence advocate. He has recently also defended a case at the Council for Licenced Conveyancers. Experience of both prosecuting and defending can be invaluable when requesting professionals in trouble.

He retains an involvement in traditional criminal cases and he has been recommended in the Chambers Guide since 1995 as a leader in the criminal field due to his expertise in serious criminal matters, such as murder, sexual offences, drugs importation, armed robbery and corporate manslaughter. He successfully defended Colin Stagg in the Wimbledon Common murder case and he has been involved in a number of other cases that have attracted national attention.
He qualified in 1987 and is a Higher Court Advocate for both criminal and civil proceedings.
