Aileen Colhoun

Aileen has an LLB.Hons from Bristol University, an M.Phil in Criminology from the University of Cambridge and qualified as a solicitor in 1983 after training at nationally renowned specialist criminal firm Kingsley Napley. She has defended in a number of large-scale fraud trials prosecuted by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), and other prosecuting authorities, including the Maxwell and British Rail corruption trials and was a member of the team advising in the recently concluded BAE corruption investigation.

With her extensive background in general and serious crime, Aileen has a wealth of expert knowledge when it comes to defending allegations of murder, drugs trafficking and serious sexual offences. She also has significant expertise in advising clients facing confiscation proceedings, has sought the assistance of foreign judicial authorities, and has advised in extradition proceedings.

Aileen increasingly represents professionals in disciplinary proceedings and is currently advising in investigations and proceedings being conducted by the General Medical Council and the General Chiropractic Council. She is particularly well placed to advise in circumstances where there is an overlap between professional disciplinary and criminal proceedings.

Aileen is a member of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors' Association (LCCSA), the City of Westminster and Holborn Law Society, and the Association of Regulatory & Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL). She was recently appointed Equality and Diversity Officer at Bankside Law, with responsibility for auditing and monitoring equality and diversity issues across the firm.

When Aileen is not working, she enjoys spending time with her young son.
